Although few independent significant SNPs had previously been reported in association with cancer (or were in strong LD with previously reported SNPs, Supplementary Fig. S4), one third of the lead genes had previously been reported in association with cancer (Table 1), including the prominent lead genes DLEU1 and ZMIZ1 and a notable cluster of significant genes in the region of NEU1 on chromosome 6 (Supplementary Fig. S5). Here, ZMIZ1 is linked to cancer.
