FNDC5 and postmenopausal osteoporosis: Other studies indicate that the proliferation of osteoblasts can be promoted by irisin via enhancing aerobic glycolysis (Zhang et al., 2018), and the osteoblast apoptosis is suppressed by irisin via upregulating nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), inhibiting pyrin domain containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome and lowering the content of inflammatory factors, which cause the reduction of the incidence of postmenopausal osteoporosis (Xu et al., 2020).
