Second, cortical serotonin 5HT2A receptors (5-HT2ARs) seem to be the critical target to induce these psychosis-like responses3, and second-generation antipsychotics such as clozapine, risperidone and olanzapine, among others, display potent antagonism properties on 5-HT2ARs. Furthermore, since 5-HT plays a key role in emotional processing, it has been proposed that dysregulation of 5-HT neurotransmission could underlie the negative symptoms of schizophrenia1. The gene discussed is HTR5A; the disease is psychotic disorder.
