It is now clear that the molecular genetics of ALS and FTD also overlap significantly, involving over-expression of TAR DNA-binding protein (TARDBP), FUS, hnRNPA1, Coiled-Coil-Helix-Coiled-Coil-Helix Domain Containing 10 (CHCHD10), and most importantly, the chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9ORF72) gene [122]. Here, TARDBP is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
