Papillary thyroid carcinoma with complex papillary architecture, known as the classical variant, and infiltrative carcinomas with predominant follicular architecture, known as the infiltrative follicular variant, represent the BRAF-like family of thyroid carcinomas that have an infiltrative rather than expansile pattern of growth and florid nuclear atypia. The gene discussed is BRAF; the disease is thyroid gland papillary carcinoma.
