BCL2L10 and hepatocellular carcinoma: Some studies demonstrate that UBQLN1 facilitates the proteolysis of it bound substrates, while other studies also revealed that UBQLN1 stabilizes proteins that it binds, such as BCLb.57 These conflicting reports indicate that UBQLN1 either facilitates or retards the degradation of its bound substrates, which may account for the cell line-specific effect of UBQLN1 on general ubiquitination levels in HCC cell lines in the present study.
