Given the known role of DSP and PPL in EMT, and the complexity of EMT-mediated metastatic process in ovarian cancer, plakin biology is expected to play an important role in each facet of ovarian cancer progression, including progression at the primary site, shedding of tumour cells in the ascites, clustering of tumour cells as spheroids and colonization at metastatic niches. This evidence concerns the gene DSP and ovarian carcinoma.
