Our results proved that the myopia-promoting effect of insulin was likely to be through affecting RPE cells, promoting the increase of the secondary myopia signal molecule (TGF-β2, IGF-1, bFGF) secreted by RPE cells, and then acting on choroidal sclera and other downstream tissues, causing eye axis growth, and eventually promoting the occurrence of myopia. This evidence concerns the gene IGF1 and myopia.
