In a retrospective study [26] involving 216 patients with HCC who were treated with resection or nonsurgical treatment, a CRP level > 1 mg/dl was an independent risk factor for HCC recurrence, with a 5-year recurrence rate of 27.4% vs. 16.4% (HR 2.33; 95% CI 1.13–4.83; P = 0.022). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
