The Erlotinib Prevention of Oral Cancer (EPOC) [5] trial randomized patients with OPMD and high-risk LOH profile (3p14 and/or 9p21 in case of history of oral cancer or LOH at 3p14 and/or 9p21 plus an additional chromosomal site if no history of oral cancer was collected) to receive either EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor erlotinib or placebo, in order to prevent oral cancer occurrence. Here, EGFR is linked to oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy.
