LDHA and bone osteosarcoma: Interestingly, a recent article showed that reactive oxygen species (ROS) promote LDHA nuclear translocation in an immortalized human keratinocyte (HaCaT), human cervical cancer (HT-3), human bone osteosarcoma epithelial (U2OS), and HeLa cell lines where LDHA gains a noncanonical enzyme activity producing the antioxidant metabolite, α-hydroxybutyrate, potentially to protect cancer cells from ROS-mediated cell death (34).
