Another project aiming at the development of a safe and efficient gene therapy for RDEB via transplantation of autologous skin equivalents, called GENEGRAFT (www.clinicaltrials.gov: NCT01874769), implements a self-inactivating (SIN) COL7A1-expressing retroviral vector to treat RDEB in order to investigate RDEB patients with regard to their immune tolerance to type VII collagen and the capacity of corrected skin cells for tissue regeneration. The gene discussed is COL7A1; the disease is recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa.
