Mühle et al. (2006) investigated the applicability of prenatal gene therapy for the most severe junctional form of EB, the first of its kind concerning inherited blistering skin disorders. This study indicated that the prenatal injection of LAMB3 cDNA-expressing viral vectors into the amniotic cavities of LAMB3-deficient mice provided a therapeutic benefit. However, the life span of treated mice was only slightly increased (Mühle et al., 2006). The gene discussed is LAMB3; the disease is epidermolysis bullosa.
