Sodium–glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors have been recently used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and these agents could lower blood glucose concentration by enhancing urinary glucose excretion, as well as maintain long-term effect on the blood HbA1c level (Zinman et al., 2015; Neuen et al., 2018; Wiviott et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A2 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
