Noteworthy, the general trends of hypermethylation in PD and DLB were in contrary to previous reports (Jowaed et al., 2010; Matsumoto et al., 2010; Desplats et al., 2011; Ai et al., 2014; Funahashi et al., 2016; Yoshino et al., 2016) and unexpected since hypermethylation at promoter/intron 1 CGIs is generally associated with decreased gene expression, whereas overexpression of SNCA has been implicated in disease etiology. The gene discussed is SNCA; the disease is Parkinson disease.
