The only genes that were differentially expressed in GPR35−/− compared to wild-type mice following ETBF infection were Cxcl5, Il-22, and Mt2. These are all important genes in the innate immune response, as CXCL5 stimulates neutrophil recruitment51, IL-22 is important for host defense and mucosa regeneration52, and metallothionein MT2 functions as a modulator of the immune response by zinc sequestration, a metal important for the function of immune cells53. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL5 and infection.
