Several epigenetic enzymes have been implicated in regulation of classical macrophage phenotypes including histone methyltransferase and demethylase such as EZH2 and Jumanji domain-containing protein D3 (JMJD3) and histone acetyltransferase and deacetylases such as P300, SIRT1, SIRT6, HDAC3 and HDAC9 indicating that histone modification is linked to macrophages activation in atherosclerosis [85]. This evidence concerns the gene EZH2 and atherosclerosis.
