Therefore, SIRT1 deficiency may restrain the differentiation and activation of B cells into plasma cells, enhance pro-inflammatory cytokine secretion from B cells, and promote the generation of autoantibodies, which could be a possible reason for autoimmune disorders and explain the occurrence of symptoms similar to lupus nephritis in SIRT1-null mice in addition to the failure of autophagy (7) (Table 1).
