Although most patients with COVID-19 manifest fever and respiratory tract symptoms, SARS-CoV-2 infection may also cause extra-respiratory symptoms, including cardiac, gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, neurological, olfactory, gustatory, ocular, cutaneous and haematological system. Independent from the primary manifestation, death is generally associated with elevated levels of cytokines, interleukin IL-6, IL-1, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), and COVID-19-associated coagulopathy (CAC) (64). Here, TNF is linked to blood coagulation disease.
