These coagulation abnormalities may lead to decreased ADAMTS-13 resulting in aggregation of uncleaved von Willebrand factor (vWF) multimers followed by the deposits of microvascular platelet thrombi, indicating the complications of both disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and/or thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) (Figure 4) (Levi and Thachil, 2020).
