S100A9 and neurodegenerative disease: Since S100A9 is both a pro-inflammatoryand amyloidogenic protein, OleA effectively mitigates the pathologicalconsequences of the S100A9-driven amyloid-neuroinflammatory cascadein neurodegenerative diseases.9−11 Together with previously reportedantiamyloid effects of OleA on other amyloidogenic polypeptides,25−33 the present findings further emphasize the beneficial propertiesof the Mediterranean diet in which olive oil is a central component.
