Patients with CF suffer from chronic infections and severe inflammation and present high levels of pro-inflammatory molecules such as IL-8, IL-6, TNFα, and arachidonic acid metabolites (Nakamura et al., 1992; Khan et al., 1995; O’Sullivan and Fredman, 2009), indicating a possible pro-inflammatory state of these cells. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and cystic fibrosis.
