After applying Bonferonni’s correction for multiple comparisons (level of statistical significance, p < 0.0045) and adjusting for parasitemia, syndecan-1 was associated with ADMA (r = 0.33, p < 0.0001), creatinine (r = 0.46, p < 0.0001), lactate (r = 0.25, p < 0.001), angiopoietin-2 (r = 0.48, p < 0.0001), intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1; r = 0.30, p < 0.0001), osteoprotegerin (OPG; r = 0.25, p < 0.001), and inversely with microvascular reactivity (r = − 0.36, p < 0.001). This evidence concerns the gene TNFRSF11B and parasitic infectious disease.
