STAM and nonpapillary renal cell carcinoma: Possible explanations may include (1) in the TM cohort, the patients with advanced ccRCC were not enough (11, 36, and 12 patients for pT3 and 4, grade 3 and 4, and stage III and IV ccRCC, respectively), which may lead to false-negative results, and (2) the difference between transcriptional and translational biomarkers may result in such an inconsistency, hinting that both mRNA and protein of STAM1 could serve as useful biomarkers for ccRCC and yet have different prognostic meanings.
