Herein, we designed a randomized trial to evaluate the surgical stress response and the metabolic response in patients who underwent right colonic resection for colon cancer; we chose IL-6 as the primary outcome because, as already demonstrated, its production is a direct consequence of tissue trauma, and it is synthetized locally and acts as a trigger for liver synthesis of other acute phase proteins, such as CRP. This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and colonic neoplasm.
