In a subsequent study, the master transcription factor SOX2, a lineage-specific oncogene for squamous cell carcinomas, was found to be overexpressed and to promote tumor associated neutrophil (TANs)-accumulation by upregulating CXCL5 (the mouse homolog of human CXCL6) expression31. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL5 and squamous cell carcinoma.
