CRP and periodontitis: It was reported that the pathogenesis and progression of periodontitis is regulated by several inflammatory mediators such as galectin-3, prostaglandins, interleukins, metalloproteases, and upregulation of C‐reactive protein (CRP)released from fibroblast, epithelial cells, neutrophils and macrophages, into the bloodstream in reaction to periodontal bacteria and the authors proved that serum and salivary Galectin‐3 levels were considered to be a valuable prognostic early marker of periodontitis and coronary heart diseases [5].
