In a study of the effect of high fructose on cardiac apoptosis and survival pathways, it was found that compared with the control group, rats in the fructose-induced metabolic syndrome group (FIMS) had more apoptotic cells, and activated cytoplasmic cytochrome c, caspase-3 and 9 levels (mitochondrial pathway) significantly increased; p-PI3K, p-Akt, and Bcl-2 protein levels significantly decreased. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is metabolic syndrome.
