Remarkably, up to 80% of HK2 localizes in MAMs of diverse neoplastic cell types, including cervix, colon and breast carcinoma models and cells derived from neurofibromas and from malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors, whereas only about 30% of HK2 colocalizes with MAMs in non-tumor cells such as macrophages and myoblasts [92]. This evidence concerns the gene HK2 and neurofibroma.
