Interestingly, it has been reported that a significant percentage of micronuclei in cancer cells contain LC3 puncta, and this LC3/micronuclei colocalization is lost after knock-down of either ATG5 or ATG7. This indicates that micronuclei (or at least a proportion of them) are degraded by autophagy [69]. This evidence concerns the gene MAP1LC3A and cancer.
