The analyses of the methylation status of MAL in normal cells and in a number of tumor specimens and tumor-derived cell lines indicate that the MAL CpG island is the subject of methylation, and that this epigenetic mechanism contributes to the downregulation of MAL gene expression in many cancers [196,197,198,199,200,201,202,203,204,205,206,207,208,209,210,211,212,213,214,215]. This evidence concerns the gene MAL and neoplasm.
