IDH-wildtype astrocytomas were the most heterogeneous molecular group as the grade II and grade III tumors were stratified into distinct methylation subclasses of glioblastoma or different molecular entities (i.e., low-grade glioma MYB/MYBL1 or (anaplastic) pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma) that are not included in the category of “diffuse astrocytic and oligodendroglial tumors” in the WHO 2016 classification system. This evidence concerns the gene IDH2 and astrocytoma (excluding glioblastoma).
