HSF1 and cancer: Together, they can prevent the oligomerization and the activation of various client proteins, such as HSF1 (Abravaya et al., 1992), IκB (Weiss et al., 2007), and block caspase activation (Multhoff, 1997; Jaattela et al., 1998; Lanneau et al., 2007; Neckers et al., 2007; Vartholomaiou et al., 2016), thereby promoting immortality of cancer cells and the general resistance to physical stresses and chemotherapeutic agents.
