In a high fat diet-induced atherosclerosis model in apolipoprotein E knock out (ApoE−/−) mice, systemic infusion of human GMSCs led to a similar and significant decrease in the frequency of splenic and blood macrophages as well as a drop in the frequency of total macrophages and F4/80+CD16/32+ M1 macrophages in the draining lymph nodes of ApoE−/− mice. This evidence concerns the gene APOE and atherosclerosis.
