In the last decades there has been an improvement in the knowledge of molecular biology of NETs, and many clinical studies have been launched with targeted therapies involved in tumorigenesis, such as mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) inhibitors or tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), achieving the approval of everolimus and sunitinib (sunitinib only in pancreatic NET) (8–14). Here, MTOR is linked to pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor.
