The coincidence of these endocrine entities, together with elevated conjugated bilirubin indicating cholestasis already in the first days of life and several small cysts detected by ultrasound in kidneys and pancreas led the suspicion of an underlying neonatal diabetes with congenital hypothyroidism (NDH) syndrome due to a GLIS3 mutation. This evidence concerns the gene GLIS3 and neonatal diabetes mellitus with congenital hypothyroidism.
