A number of reports have shown that mGlu1 and mGlu5 receptors are overexpressed in the spinal cord of ALS patients and SOD1G93A mice (Anneser et al., 1999; Aronica et al., 2001; Brownell et al., 2015; Valerio et al., 2002) and that they contribute to the damage of neuronal and glial cells (D'Antoni et al., 2011; Rossi et al., 2008; Valerio et al., 2002). The gene discussed is GRM1; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
