Given the fact that the GAS5 has a different effect, either positive or negative, on the tumor progression, invasion and response to treatment in various types of cancers [23,25,40,48], our findings suggest that the presence of the GAS5 SNP rs145204276 variant is a positive factor for severe oral cancer in at least a male population, in contrast to the protective effect for oral cancer in a previous study [42]. The gene discussed is GAS5; the disease is neoplasm.
