We predict that DNA methylation at CpGs 1 and 2 is a key determinant of the CYP11B2 mRNA levels in the heart, and that hypomethylation of the CYP11B2 promoter causes an aberrant increase in the CYP11B2 gene expression in the pathophysiology of cardiac hypertrophy, heart failure, or cardiomyopathy. Here, CYP11B2 is linked to cardiomyopathy.
