In MS animal models, when experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) was induced in germ-free mice, a decrease in inflammatory interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) and interleukin-(IL)-17A levels in the CNS was detected, as well as an increase in regulatory T cells (Treg) in the gut mucosa [20]. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.
