The role of Malassezia in psoriasis pathogenesis is still unclear; however, according to Watanabe et al. [26], M. sympodialis can increase the production of the pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor alpha), IL-1 (interleukin 1), IL-6 (interleukin 6), and IL-8 (interleukin 8) in the skin and stimulate keratinocyte proliferation. Here, CXCL8 is linked to psoriasis.
