HGF and myeloid sarcoma: As an example, by using a proteomic approach, a higher level of two plasma proteins (oncostatin M and hepatocyte growth factor) was found in MS patients compared to healthy subjects (correlation was proven by AUC values of 0.69 and 0.77, respectively) [32]; both proteins have a neuroprotective effect, and it was suggested that such an increase might be a natural compensation mechanism following the neuronal damage induced by the disease-associated inflammation states.
