VDR and cancer: Current evidence confirms that VDR activation by 1,25(OH)2D produces numerous biological actions in these tissues through genomic and non-genomic pathways, i.e., anti-proliferative and pro-differentiation effects on keratinocytes, immunomodulatory effects on activated B and T lymphocytes and macrophages, anti-metastatic effects on various cancer cells, effects on muscle function, maternal/child health, potential protective effects against cardiovascular diseases, metabolic disorders, and pregnancy complications [1].
