AML is an aggressive malignancy characterized by abnormal proliferation of myeloid progenitor cells and is strongly associated with mutations in the FMS-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) gene or the abnormal fusion gene promyelocytic leukemia/retinoic acid receptor alpha (PML/RARA) [3,5]. The gene discussed is RARA; the disease is acute myeloid leukemia.
