The MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio (an index of net MMP-9 activity) is associated with great arterial stiffness, as assessed by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity, but not with muscular arterial elasticity, as assessed by carotid-radial pulse wave velocity (CRPWV), in patients with hypertension [110]. This evidence concerns the gene MMP9 and hypertensive disorder.
