Functional assays showed that serum CARD8 levels were significantly lower in AOSD patients (median, 10,524.6 pg/mL) compared to controls (13,964.1 pg/mL, p = 0.005), while levels of caspase-1, IL-1β and IL-18 were significantly higher in patients (107.1 pg/mL, 2.1 pg/mL, and 1495.8 pg/mL, respectively) than those in controls (99.0 pg/mL, 1.0 pg/mL, and 141.4 pg/mL, respectively). This evidence concerns the gene CASP1 and adult-onset Still disease.
