Several studies have shown that circulating ADMA is increased in subjects with histological-proven NAFLD: one study had only male subjects enrolled, with no morbid obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), or hypertension, and another one showed that ADMA levels are higher in insulin resistance states [31] and that plasma ADMA levels are decreasing as a response to insulin sensitivity improvement [29,32]. This evidence concerns the gene INS and diabetes mellitus.
