In the large Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities general population [37], the incidence of nonfatal myocardial infarction, fatal coronary artery disease or coronary revascularisation over a 15-year interval was analysed according to the presence or absence of sequence variants in the PCSK9 gene (PCSK9) associated with reduced plasma levels of LDL cholesterol. The gene discussed is PCSK9; the disease is myocardial infarction.
