Approximately 10% of ALS cases are attributed to inherited familial mutations in more than 25 different genes including: Chromosome 9 Open Reading Frame 72 (c9orf72), Superoxide Dismutase 1 (SOD1), TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43), Fused in Sarcoma (FUS), Optineurin (OPTN), and TANK-binding kinase 1 (TBK1) [6]. The gene discussed is FUS; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
