NFE2L2 and acute pancreatitis: To cite some examples, melatonin reverted glutathione peroxidase activity in cerulein-induced acute pancreatitis [12], increased the levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and of reduced glutathione (GSH) in plasma and macrophages of animals infected with Trypanosoma cruzi [13], increased glutathione reductase content in liver, kidney, heart, and testis tissues [14], and induced the activation of the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor (Nrf2) and the antioxidant-responsive element, leading to related antioxidant enzymes, in pancreatic acinar cells [15].
