CCND1 and melanoma: Cyclin D1 overexpression is reported to correlate with short cancer patient survival, as well as tumor progression, and can lead to oncogenesis by inducing anchorage-independent growth and angiogenesis through VEGF promotion [36] In the present report, cyclin D1 was abundantly expressed in the lumican knockout-mice, injected with either Mock-B16F1 or with Snail-B16F1 melanoma cells, while it was less expressed in the wild type lumican group, rendering lumican a powerful metastasis suppressor.
